Yo stay hungry is a culinary competition that fuses hip-hop with food and beverage.

THE #BIGGIEDAY COMPETITION

One of the key Yo Stay Hungry experiences is the high school competition on #BiggieDay where teams of young people partner with professional chef coaches to deliver rap lyrics straight to the plate. Each team prepares dishes based on classic songs, and those dishes are then judged by a panel of special guests that have included some heavy hip-hop hitters as well as giants and pioneers from the food industry.

See below for a recap of #BiggieDay 2016

Founded in 2015 by Syreeta Gates, Yo Stay Hungry has been a groundbreaking innovation, bridging the worlds of rap and food. It started out as a citywide culinary competition for high school students hosted at August Martin HS in Queens, NY. It has since grown to be a trusted brand to wet the appetite for rap parties like Jonathan Mannion's Reasonable Doubt 20th Anniversary celebration and to represent for the culture at events like the 2016 Taste Talk Food and Drink Awards. Whoever thought hip-hop would take it this far?

Yo Stay Hungry hip-hop culinary competitions are often hosted at different schools in various cities with students and professional chefs as participants. Each team is equipped with a hip-hop lyric that references food and tasked with preparing a representative dish for judges. One team is chosen, given an award and the title for a year in their city.

As a tribute to one of the best to ever do it, Chef Terrell. A. Curry, the Chef Curry scholarship is offered to rising cooking and baking aficionados who are pursuing careers in culinary arts in the flyest of ways and are working to spread their love of food to the masses. The scholarship is open during each Stay Hungry Competition tour to applicants from each participating city. The scholarship is currently closed and the winner will be publicly announced at the May 20th Stay Hungry competition in NYC.
